An anti-WarisanMerdeka page on Facebok with the name of “1M Malaysians Reject 100-storey Mega Tower” has been signing up fans at an astounding rate of over one-thousand per hour yesterday. It had breached over 50-thousand fans in less than 12 hours since the page was created and it has reached 240-thousand fans now.
A Facebook user NazriAhtar said that it is better to spend the money in other division such as education, technology and living environment rather than having the tallest building in the world.
"Jalanrayakatcherasni pun byk yang berlobang, traffic light rosak x repair, bas tak cukup, laginakbuatmenarani, gila ape? selamatmenderitarakyatmalaysia....(The roads in Cheras are full of potholes, broken traffic lights are not repaired, insufficient buses, and you still want to build this tower, are you crazy? Happy suffering citizens of Malaysia….)” wrote another Facebook user MuhamadRais. The project is also ahot topic in Twitter with many questioning the need for the tower and its implications on traffic in an already heavily congested city.

This issue has also affected the citizen’s confident towards the government. “ To be a progressive country, we need to reform our economy and vanish corruption not just making another skyscraper and hope that money will come rolling in the pocket. We must think wiser now or our country will be left behind. The Government must aware of rakyat’s hardship and miseries, Rakyat also serves the right and we can change you by our voting power. Beware!!” Wrote by MohamadAfifuddin on the 1M Malaysians Reject 100-storey Mega Tower page.
However, some who supported the project say that it will have a positive effect on the country’s economy as it will boost tourism, create jobs opportunity, stimulate economic activity and raise land vaue prices in the vicinity.
“Look at Shanghai, they started with a tower and keep adding more, the same goes for Taipei,” said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen.
At the end, it all comes back to the same question, do Malaysia really need to have the building and is it appropriate to do it now?
